An Update from the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Last September 2020, the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion witnessed firsthand that much can be accomplished when our members pull together as a community. This story begins with a recent member reaching out to the general mailbox of the BPLA inquiring whether the organization has any diversity subgroups or suggestions on recruiting people of color for a law firm employer. Our trusty administrator and webmaster – Constance introduced the inquirer to the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. The Committee in response prepared and posted a request "for diversity recruiting resources" to the membership on Wednesday September 16, 2020. After a week plus, when no responses were received, the Committee posted a follow-up request for suggestions on "recruiting avenues to reach prospective qualifying candidates." That follow-up posting was dated Friday September 25, 2020, and by Monday morning September 28, 2020, several responses were received and forwarded to the initial inquirer.
The Committee thanks the members for their attention and support, and for taking steps (no matter how seemingly small) in meaningful action toward equal opportunity and inclusion in our profession. In the spirit of being part of the greater good for the patent law community, here is a list of the resources mentioned in the responses received. Please feel free to further share these resources.
