Report on the Giles Rich Moot Court Competition
The
43rd Annual AIPLA Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition
for the Northeastern Region was held March 11-13, 2016, at Suffolk University Law School. 13 teams competed in the event, including students from
Brooklyn Law School
,
Columbia Law School
,
Georgetown University Law Center
,
New England Law School
,
Rutgers School of Law
,
Suffolk University Law School
,
Temple University Beasley School of Law
,
Touro College Jacob D. Fuschsberg Law Center
(Long Island, New York)
,
University of Baltimore School of Law
, and
University of New Hampshire School of Law
. On March 11 all 13 teams participated in two rounds of oral arguments from which four teams moved on to the Semi-Finals. Several awards were also presented after the oral arguments.
Jordyn Eisenpress
and John Fraser from
Columbia Law School
won the award for the Best Appellant Brief and
Vincent Pontrello
and
Alexandra Troiano
from
Brooklyn Law School
won the award for the Best Appellee Brief. The highest score in the first round of competition for the oral arguments was earned by
Jency Mathew
and
Kaitlin Halsell
from
Temple University Beasley School of Law
, and thus they were presented with the award for Best Advocates.

On March 12, the Semi-Finals were held in which

and Fraser from
Columbia Law School

Christine Chen
and
Antonia Hyman
from
Columbia Law School
,
Mathew
and
Halsell
from
Temple University Beasley School of Law
, and
Gregory De Tolla
and Stephani Schendingler from
Touro College Jacob D. Fuschsberg Law Center
competed in oral arguments. In an all-Columbia Semi-Final,
Eisenpress
and Fraser argued for the appellant against
Chen
and
Hyman
, who argued for the appellee. Meanwhile,
Mathew
and
Halsell
argued for the appellant against
De Tolla
and Schendingler, who argued for the appellee. At the end of the Semi-Finals, the two teams that moved onto the Finals were

and
Mathew
and
Halsell
from
Temple University Beasley School of Law
.

On March 13, the Finals were held where
Eisenpress
and Fraser argued for the appellant against
Mathew
and
Halsell
, who argued for the appellee. The overall winner for the 2016 Regional Giles Rich Moot Court Competition was
