In House Committee: The New Normal – How the role of In-House Counsel Will Change in a Post-COVID World.
In-House Practice Committee
The In-House Committee hosted a lively conversation on May 20 on how in-house IP practice has been impacted by the pandemic and how those changes will shape in-house practices going forward. Participants had an active discussion on the benefits of in-office face time versus the more quiet and productive environment that an at home office can provide, and how to compensate for reduced face time with key stakeholders as more organizations shift to partially or fully remote work models. Participants also discussed the advantages of being able to source talent from a wider geographical area and to retain talent by supporting partially or fully remote employees going forward. Administrative challenges brought about by the pandemic were also discussed, and how in-house counsel can leverage resources, such as outside counsel, to address tasks that have become more cumbersome, such as obtaining signature documents. Attendees enjoyed the active and genial conversation. The BPLA and the In-House Committee thanks the attendees for making the event a success and looks forward to additional brown bag discussions over the year.
