Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for reading the Winter 2021 Edition of the BPLA Newsletter, especially those new members listed in our 2020 New Member Welcome.
We are pleased to feature articles about wellness and fitting meaningful pro bono work into our busy lives. For our biotech practitioners, we have a guest article from Rebecca Tollervey of Mewburn Ellis on Patenting Highly Engineered Antibodies in Europe.
We also congratulate our 2020 Writing Competition winners Evan Jones (First Place) and Mattias Rättzén (Second Place) and include summaries of their winning papers.
I would like to thank BPLA’s administrator, Constance Brennan, and the staff of Readz for their help in preparing this newsletter. If you have suggestions, requests, or submissions for a future issue, please feel free to reach out to me at vice.president@bpla.org.
And, finally, while few of us are using our constitutional law cases on a daily basis, I hope as an organization we have a chance to reflect on the long history of our nation, the value of the rule of law, and the gift the Founders gave us when they wrote the Constitution. Our charter begins with the words “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union.” Our Founders never assured us of a perfect union, but I hope we can strive to use the Constitution and the laws of our country to make our union closer and our country a place of justice for all.
