BIPLA Fourth Annual Symposium

The Boston Intellectual Property Law Association held its 4th Annual Symposium on April 10–11, 2024. The symposium was hosted by President Josh Dalton and his team at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP. With nearly 100 attendees and 10 sponsor organizations, this year’s symposium brought together intellectual property professionals from a variety of practice areas for two stimulating days of panel discussions and networking. Day one of the symposium featured six interactive panel sessions with two parallel tracks to provide a variety of topics for attendees with different backgrounds and interests. The sessions covered a range of substantive topics including enablement after Amgen, triaging IP options for protecting AI inventions, navigating antitrust scrutiny of Orange Book patent listing, demand letters, litigation finance, being a good associate at trial, pro bono opportunities for IP attorneys, authorship and inventorship with AI, and copyright interplay with fictional characters. The day ended with a networking mixer at Morgan Lewis and a cocktail reception at the Langham Hotel sponsored by Kilburn & Strode, both of which provided opportunities for additional discussion and building new connections. Day two of the symposium included three plenary sessions, including a review of UPC developments and their impact on litigation strategies, as well as a discussion about PTAB clerkships and LEAP. The final session of the day was a discussion of ethics and malpractice developments for patent and trademark lawyers. We look forward to seeing you for next year’s Symposium in early April 2025! Please be on the lookout for further information as the event is finalized and registration is opened.
