BIPLA Patent Office Practice Committee Discussion of USPTO Guidelines for Assessing Inventorship Involving Assistance of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

On April 23, 2024, the Patent Office Practice Committee of the BIPLA hosted a Brown Bag Lunch to discuss the USPTO’s recent Guidance on assessing inventorship for inventions developed with the assistance of artificial intelligence (“AI”).  The session reviewed the USPTO’s recent history of actions on AI, analyzed the major takeaways from the Guidance, and discussed how inventorship analysis practices may change over time as both AI and inventions developed with AI increase in sophistication.
