David M. Habib Joins Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds Life Science Team

Habib has joined the firm as an Associate in the Life Science team. David specializes in the fields of biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. He has experience preparing and responding to patent and trademark office actions, licensing transactions, and patent issues. Before joining Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds, David was a quality control biochemist at Novavax, Inc., in Gaithersburg, Maryland. In this position, he executed the prevalidation and validation of new PicoGreen standard operating procedures. He also performed polymerase chain reactions (PCRs), pH analysis, single radial immunodiffusion (SRID) assays, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) on samples of vaccine components to ensure that they complied with quality control standards. David is a graduate of Boston University School of Law, where he served as a Note Editor for the American Journal of Law and Medicine. He holds a B.S. in Biology from Marymount University and an M.S. in Biomedical Science in Biochemistry from Georgetown University. While at Georgetown, he was awarded the Academic Excellence Medal for graduating with high honors. Verrill Welcomes Patent Attorney Dean Phelps

BOSTON, Mass. (November 13, 2019) – Verrill is pleased to welcome patent attorney Dean Phelps to the firm’s Boston office. Phelps is the fifth patent attorney to join Verrill in the past nine months as the firm continues to expand its intellectual property practice and build the firm’s presence in Boston.

Phelps has patent prosecution experience in chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and material sciences. In addition, he has experience monitoring global patent portfolios, conducting freedom to operate searches, and providing advice on product manufacturing, drug development, automation, and formulation techniques. Prior to practicing patent law, Phelps was a scientist developing new technologies at two major pharmaceutical companies. In that capacity, he helped to implement new technologies for analysis of small molecules, proteins and alginates, and formulations, ranging from polarized light infra-red and microscopy techniques to computer predications of chemical properties using quantum mechanics and Linux software. He also has experience with new analytical technologies for small molecules, proteins, polymers, high-throughput chemistry, mass spectrometry, robotics, high-throughput microscopy, vibrational circular dichroism, and optical rotatory dispersion. In 2014, he received the certification to be a USPTO Registered Patent Attorney. Phelps received his bachelor’s degree, with distinction, in protein chemistry, DNA biochemistry, and organic chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his M.B.A. from North Carolina State University. Oluyinka “Yinka” Green, Ph.D., Joins the Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Team

Yinka is a highly skilled chemist with expertise in medicinal chemistry. She has substantial industry experience, particularly in the areas of small-molecule drug discovery research and development. Yinka assists clients with preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of organic and medicinal chemistry. She was responsible for hit evaluation, lead identification, and optimization of chemical starting points that led to the indentification of a chemical lead series for each of multiple projects that progressed to clinical trials. At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Yinka evaluated the Institute’s chemistry-related invention disclosures for patentability, and drafted, reviewed, and negotiated agreements governing academic research collaborations.
