International and Medical Device Committees Joint Event

medical-device-image.jpg
On November 21st, the International and Medical Devices Committees jointly presented Global Strategic Considerations for Medical Device Portfolios, co-sponsored by Kilburn & Strode and Pierce Atwood. The panel featured Japanese patent attorney Osamu Yamamoto, European patent attorney Scott Finlayson, US patent and trademark attorney William Geary, and moderated by Harry Harden of Kilburn & Strode. The panelists discussed jurisdictional differences in patent law, particularly with regard to the patentability of diagnostic and treatment methods, disclosure/sufficiency requirements, and divisional practice. Panelists shared their best practices for claiming healthcare-related inventions to conform with local laws and avoid method-of-treatment exclusions. A lively networking session followed. The Committees thank the audience for participating in the discussion and for braving the inclement weather and subway shutdown to attend.
