Welcome to the latest Edition of our 2017 Newsletter!
The Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA) is having an active and exciting year. As noted in the President’s letter, the Annual Dinner to Honor the Federal Judiciary, honoring Hon. Arthur J. Gajarsa, was a great success, and you can check out the photos in this issue. Through the Patent Pro Bono program, the BPLA assisted famed bow maker Benoît Rolland, and you can read a very interesting article and interview about their experience. Of course, the BPLA is not "all work and no play", and the social aspect of our organization was well-represented by the Chemical Patent Practice Committee at a beer tasting event, also described in this issue.
This issue also contains a discussion and copy of the BPLA
amicus
brief in Helsinn Healthcare S.A
v. Teva
Pharmaceuticals USA
, in which the Federal Circuit addressed the topic of on-sale bar under the America Invents Act for the first time. You can also check out articles on a wide range of other interesting intellectual property (IP) topics, from fashion and design to patent eligibility, covered business methods and litigation settlements, along with useful pieces on tips for IP managers and a Supreme Court Summary.
You can check out upcoming BPLA events to attend, including “Making Connections in Boston’s IP Community” on October 17th, and the BPLA annual PCT seminar, scheduled for November 1st-2nd. Also, save the date for the BPLA’s Seventh Annual Invented Here!
event, which will take place on the evening of Monday, October 23rd.
These are just a few of the highlights of this issue, and there is much more to see and read. As always, we are happy to receive your suggestions and comments, as well as your contributions for future newsletters.
Your Edifying Editor-in-Chief,
